Works so well, there is not much to write July 3, 2008 J. Comeaux (Lafayette, LA USA) 50 out of 51 found this review helpful
What can be said about a webcam and mic that works so smoothly? Step 1, open the box. Step 2, plug it into a USB 2.0 port on my MacMini. Step 3, begin using it in PhotoBooth (Mac OS X 10.5) or iChat, or any of the built-in iApps like Address Book. No delay in transmission across the country when connecting to Dallas. No jerkiness. (I've used the Microsoft LifeCam on Windows, and it is painfully jerky). The only possible drawback is that the spring that holds the camera to the monitor should be a bit stronger. If I start moving the monitor around, the camera can be turned by the wire - which is only an inconvenience. I did not try to install any software (I can't even remember if a CD was included). Other webcams for Mac OS X require special software to work with USB port. A great buy, and fills a hole for Mac users with no built-in camera. Five Stars
Excellent Buy April 11, 2009 Stiles Beachley (Cape Cod,MA USA) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
With a new grandaughter in the picture and her being 2000 miles away, we found Skype found we needed a camera for the Imac G5. We checked into the local spots, Best Buy etc got an education that confounded us so we decided to check online. Looked at Amazon checked out the reviews and decided that for the price and the great reviews we bought the Macally ICECAM2. Great buy, plug and play on the Mac works just fine for our purposes. The kids say we look and sound fine on it on their end. Couldn't beat the price. Quality exceeds the price!

Most Macs come with built-in iSight cameras nowadays. However, if you have a Mac Mini or a tower, you don't get a camera. You are on your own to find one. The IceCam2 is an affordable solution to that missing piece of your computer. Even those with a built-in camera might want to give this one a look.
The IceCam2 is a huge improvement over the original IceCam. The IceCam2 rotates left to right and up and down. This makes it a very attractive option for those with built-in cameras that have a limit to how much they can be adjusted. Since my baby was born in March I have been doing a lot of video chatting. It is very difficult getting him into the picture by tilting the iMac screen or holding him up to the exact spot. The IceCam2 makes that A LOT easier. I just have to clip it right onto my iMac and aim at the baby.
With a resolution of 640x480, the picture quality is great, and it also has a built-in microphone (a great addition for those on the Mini or towers).
Set up is a piece of cake. It is plug and play so you plug it in and go. No drivers are needed (unlike the original IceCam). With a 5 foot long USB cable, there is plenty of room for play in setting it up. When you open iChat the IceCam2 automatically becomes the default camera and default microphone. Unplug the camera and it is back to your built in iSight (if you have one).
The IceCam2 does not work with Photo Booth, but if you think about it you really need the built-in camera for that. Photo Booth uses the screen as a flash and you have to have the camera pointed directly at you. I'm not even sure Photo Booth comes with the machines without the built-in cameras.
At $39.99 the IceCam2 is a bargain for those needing a camera for their computer. The price also makes it very attractive and affordable for those wanting a second option to the built-in iSights.

Easy to install and works well. Picture is comparable to other more expensive webcams. Microphone works well too. Compatible with skype.
Bought it for a MAC, loved it on Windows! January 9, 2009 TC (KC) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had originally purchased this for my Non-Technical Mother, who owns a MAC and a Windows Laptop.
The reviews from the MAC users glowed about not even needing a driver install... Neither did the PC.
Plugged it in and it was detected and installed without a driver disk or download. I also loved the built in MIC!
I can't say idiot-proof, but it is highly Idiot-Resistant.
